Is this thing on?
Anyone who knows me, knows Alexa Chung is my idol.
It’s not that I necessarily aspire to be a former model/TV presenter/style icon/rockstar’s girlfriend – I just admire the girl.
So you can imagine my utter excitement at getting the chance to be in the audience for yesterday’s recording of her show It’s On With Alexa Chung.

It was quite surreal to have Ms Chung sitting a few feet away from me. She’s insanely pretty in real life, extremely skinny and much, much shorter than I had imagined. That’s always the way though, isn’t it? You always think these celebs are going to be towering over you and then you’re near them and it’s almost disappointing when you realise they’re more or less the same height as you.
Seeing as how her new show is on when I’m usually in work, I had never seen it before. And since seeing it live in the studio, I don’t think I’ll be rushing to a TV to catch it on my days off.
MTV have taken the weird, fun, quirky side of Alexa and exploited it. What worked on Popworld and Freshly Squeezed seems awkward and forced in the US. The only people over here who seem to know who Alexa is are fashion bloggers or Artic Monkeys’ fans. Producers had to pull in random guys from the street to fill up the studio because there were only two guys in the audience.
I wonder if she’s happy, or if she thinks she’s sold herself out… I hate to say this but It’s On is not going to save MTV. Sorry Alexa.
